We comply with the Privacy Act 2020 (Act) when handling personal information.
Our privacy policy describes how we collect, process, dispose of and protect your personal information.
What is personal information? Personal information is information about you that identifies you, or by which your identity can reasonably be ascertained.
Information we collect The personal information we collect depends on the services you use, and your interaction with us. For example, we may collect:
identity and contact information, such as name, address, position, telephone number, e-mail address, and date of birth;
customer due diligence information;
written and verbal interactions with us including instructions and meeting notes; and
any other information that you provide to us or authorise us to collect.
We generally collect personal information about you from you directly but may also collect information from other sources, including via our website or via publicly available information.
Use of personal information We use your personal information to enable us to effectively provide legal services. For example, we may use your personal information:
for complying with our legal obligations, including in relation to anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrorism legislation;
for instructing other co-advisers (if we have obtained your prior written authorisation) in relation to your legal matters;
identifying legal conflicts;
for sending you publications;
for evaluating any application you submit for employment with us;
for internal business purposes (including debt recovery if required); and
as permitted or required by applicable law.
Disclosing personal information We may disclose personal information about you to third parties if:
you authorise or require us to do so;
it is required by the service providers that we engage to help us provide services to you;
we are required by law to do so; or
it is required or authorised by the Law Society's Rules of Professional Conduct.
Storage of personal information We may store personal information at our offices or elsewhere, including in cloud storage in or outside New Zealand.
Access and correction of personal information Under the Act you have the right to access any personal information held by us, and ask for it to be corrected. If you’d like to exercise that right, or ask us anything else in relation to your privacy, please send us an email to office@parrlaw.co.nz.
Changes to this policy We may change this policy at any time by publishing a revised policy onto the website. All changes will apply from the date that we publish the revised policy (or the date stated in the update).
